Enbridge makes a generous donation to the Plum Coulee Volunteer Fire Department

It was a crisp, snowy morning last Wedneday, January 18, when members of the Plum Coulee Town Council and the Volunteer Fire Department met at the Plum Coulee Fire Hall. Fire Chief Tony Fehr, and volunteer Cornie Heinrichs were joined by Deputy Mayor June Letkeman, Council member Lloyd Penner, as well as Mike Rempel, CAO of the Rural Municipality of Rhineland, to witness the handing over of a cheque from Enbridge to the Plum Coulee Fire Department. Attending from Enbridge were Les Scott, Community Relations Office from Regina, and Gina Jordan from the Calgary office. It was an expressive moment when Les Scott handed the cheque for a sum of $7500 to Fire Chief Tony Fehr, in front of the current Rescue Vehicle in the Fire Hall. This donation will help the Fire Department to acquire a newer, better-equipped Rescue vehicle to provide the best possible service in the community. And Fehr hopes to have the newer vehicle in service by this spring.

Enbridge’s highest priority is the safety of the people who live and work in the communities where it operates. Thus the company takes pleasure in supporting first responder organizations that help to keep our communities safe. In casual conversation, Scott inquired of Fehr how many volunteers now serve in this area. Fehr’s response was “that we’re up to 17 now. And of these” Fehr continued, “there are several who have served up to 14 years in this capacity.’ Fehr himself has been an active volunteer for 14 years, the last 6 as Fire Chief.

As a parting comment, Scott emphasized the importance of “call before you Dig”, whether Municipal worker, landowner or builder, when cleaning out ditches, leveling field, or constructing a new building.

Just another word about Enbridge: The Enbridge Safe Community Program, now in its fourth year, provides financial support to firefighters, police departments and other first responders so they can acquire new safety equipment, obtain professional training or deliver educational programs. During its first three years, the Safe Community Program has provided funding to emergency first responders throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and the Northwest Territories.
