Prairie View Elevator:

This structure built in 1975, was the last wooden grain elevator built by Manitoba Pool in Manitoba. The Majestic timber framed grain elevators that used to dot the Pembina Valley are quickly vanishing. The Plum Coulee Elevator is one of the last timber framed elevators in our region. In 2001, The Plum Coulee Community Foundation purchased the elevator for the Agricore United Grain Company. The building stands 110 feet tall with 60 foot high annex of grain bins polished to a beautiful luster by many years of grain handling. The wood frame construction as well as the story of grain handling in this huge praire giant is well worth the tour. Enjoy photos of farming and grain buying in Manitoba and come learn about the wild plum too. The elevator is home to the Plum Coulee Community Foundation office.

The Prairie View Elevator Interpretive Centre is scheduled to open in the Spring of 2007.  For more information or tours contact the Town Office at 829-3419.

Heartland Trail:

Start in Centennial Park and walk or bike the groomed trail along the Plum River to Sunset Beach.  Continue along until the fork in the road which leads south over the bridge to local restaurants and the hotel or north to the heart of the Town of Plum Coulee.  Here you can walk the to the Heritage Square Park and see the Prairie View Elevator.  Cross the street and meander along Main Avenue and the core of the community past local churches, schools, the arena and the art gallery.  For a more open prairie view, head west of Centennial Park along the Plum River to enjoy some of the richest farmland in the province, the crops in the fields throughout the seasons and see local community cemetery.  Experience Plum Coulee on the Heartland Trail.

Heritage Square: Construction began in 2006.  This Main Avenue park is themed after the local railway history in Plum Coulee. Imagine a train back dropping the train station picnic shelter. Inside the shelter you will learn of the history of the rail in Plum Coulee. You will be able to enjoy the beautiful flowers and water foundation at the main entrance, and at the east end, the historic town bell. The west end, a multi use hard surface to be used for summer leisure sports and in the winter open air skating. Heritage Square was designed to be the town gathering spot just like the good old days in Plum Coulee.

Main Avenue Streetscape Project: In the summer of 2003 four blocks of Main Avenue were given a much needed face lift. Decorative street lamps donated by local families and businesses gave the Main Avenue a majestic glow by night. Many people came forward and donated trees with historic plaques that tell the story of Plum Coulee over the years. The old tattered sidewalks were replaced with red brick and large flower beds were added to each block corner. The remaining local businesses stepped up and gave their store fronts a new look to complement the project. We invite you to come and see downtown Plum Coulee.

Sunset Beach: In 2004 the old town water reservoir was given new life. It was drained, cleaned and re-filled with sand and water. Hundreds of trees were planted, docks were built, sun shelters added and the wild plum trees were brought back. It is now one of Plum Coulee's finest summer hot spots and definitely an impressive backdrop.

Museum: Local Plum Coulee antiques are proudly displayed on Main Avenue in the Community Museum. It is open by appointment only and you can contact the town office for details.

With the generous support of the Samuel and Saidye Bronfman Family Foundation the Town of Plum Coulee has recently undertaken a vigorous development process. We envision our town as a vibrant, safe, and healthy place for people of all ages. The community believes its existing natural and cultural assets can be enhanced to encourage the growth of residential, recreational, and hospitality services.

In order to achieve this vision, the Plum Coulee Community Foundation has developed a long range master plan with the help of Hilderman, Thomas, Frank, Cram Landscape Architects & Planners. The Heritage and Recreation Master Plan consists of 5 projects.
